:The Lost Soul:by ~maf8

Scraps©2006-2013 ~maf8
This deviation is for the first :iconmanipulatethis: challenge
:iconmanipulatethis: is a brand new photomanipulation club! ManipulateThis is a little different from what you normally see, in that it is a contest club.

There are three challenges and pick the third one... If you want to know more go to :iconmanipulatethis: page...

To this image I use:
:icontracie76stock: for the girl [link]
sxc.hu for the background [link]
and brushes from :iconkeren-r: and :iconpfefferminzchen:

This the text that is on the image:
"She lost her soul, and now she don’t know where is it. She look to the mirror and do not see any reflex... The soul dissapear, so as the reflect, so as the joy, so as the colour of life... She looks into the mirrors... But no one looks back. The mirror is empty... She wants to cry... But many time ago her tears have dry... The tears dry in the momemt that she lost her soul, in the moment she lost her childhood... The soul dissapear... anything that was left was a body... a body full of memories... No one knows who is she or where she comes from... She is the child without childhood, she is the child without soul... She is the sadness in person and she alone... No one come close to her... everybody have fear of her empty eyes... because they can see her soul, they can’t see her... All that they see is a body of a abondoned child, a child that no one loves, a child that no one cares with... She stills look to the mirrors... wanting for some soul to have mercy of her... She waits.. She knows that her day will arrieve... she will wait... time is no problem to her, because she has no soul and she knows it... "

You have to excuse me english, because it's not my mother tongue... If you notice any error please tell me.

Here we go for a long critic :evillaugh: =p. I'm kidding I won't kill you, just try to help you as clearly as I can :D.

:star: First, you should try to make the girl blend more in the picture. Why ? The edges aren't soft so it doesn't look like she's integrated into the background. What to do ? When you are cropping out the figure, don't use a hard-edged brush. Set the opacity a little lower (around 80% is good to me) so that it looks a little more soft. And set the roundness very low. I usually put it to 0% :D. And then try to crop along her curves, the most precisely possible ;). It's the hardest part to me because you have to be patient and really precise. That's why I love when the stock photos are in high resolution and not blurry so that you can see the curves clearly.

:star: I see you want to play around with textures. Good :D ! Now, we'll talk about practical things I've taught myself not so long ago ;). It seems you use brushes to do your textures, right ? If so, that's a way to do it ;). Then to add life to the picture, you can try to change the blending mode. There are 2 diferent ways to do it :
- If you use your brush directly on the image, just change the blending more of the brush. You have the same options as for layers : normal, multiply, screen,lighten,... I love to use those options but you have to be careful about it because some are too hard and it'll waste the picture. So I usually copy the layer as a backup, in case I do something wrong so that I don't loose my whole work ^^. Then, just play around with the settings and experience about changing opacity, flow, and blending modes at the same time :D. At first, it's scary cause you won't really understand the effects you can have with this process but it's very interesting and you'll slowly get everything with practice ;).

That's actually the whole critic I have to do! I hope I could help you with those two points :D ! Take care andkeep up the good work;)

I have to confess when I read "Here we go for a long critic :evillaugh:" I stay scared :P

I have to confess too that when I crop the figure I did it a little rush (I don't remember very well but i think that instead of doing it I should be studing....)
This was almost my first attempted for thsi type a photomanip... It was not bad I've i consider that... Anyway thanks :thanks: from the bottom of mye heart  for the critique... I'll try do not the same mistakes and try to play with things a little bit more...

Thanks again for stopping by ... and be welcome to back anytime you wish :D

I'm happy you took it the good way ! And don't think you made mistakes, it's just that you're learning, so there are always elements that you can't control at first. I was the same and I can say that I'm still learning. Keep up the good work ! :D

I do not know very well how it's going to be, but probably in =perfect-manipulators try to "obrigate" people to comment others work - not just sayng "I  it" or something like that but tell the others wich parts can be improve and with luck how can he/she do it or where can learn (links to tutorials)

I was thinking do a club just for this put i have talk with =perfect-manipulators and perhaps this club can help on that too :P

This challenge is SO interesting, seeing what different minds come up with, with similar source materials and a time limit. I have enjoyed looking at them, and taking part in it. It looks like you enjoyed it too! Well done! regards to you
